Multisensory training can promote or impede auditory speech perceptual learning

Tue, 14 October, 2014 5:15pm

GWU Department of Speech & Hearing Science, Lynne E. Bernstein, PhD, discusses“Multisensory training can promote or impede auditory speech perceptual learning.”  Dr. Bernstein researches perceptual, cognitive and neural bases for speech perception and spoken word recognition.  The Communication Neuroscience Laboratory also researches multisensory processing, perceptual language, and effects of deafness, hearing loss, and difficulty perceiving speech in noise.

Learning Objectives:

As a result of attending this lecture, participants will be able to:

  • Learn about current ideas about multisensory training from the perceptual and neuroscience literature.
  • Learn about possible principles that determine whether multisensory training is likely to be more successful than unisensory training for speech perception.
