The Paradox of IDEA and EHDI: Its Negative Impact on Deaf Children in Schools and Clinics Today - How Should It Be Fixed?
Ms. Holmes, Esq. will talk not only about IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act - Public Law 101-476), the existing federal education law that has an outgoing negative impact on Deaf and hard-of-hearing children in schools, arguing that it is paradoxical and needs to be fixed in eyes of culturally Deaf people, but also about why Deaf parents and others in the Deaf community in general continue to have a mistrust in audiologists and speech-language pathologists when it comes to early hearing detection and intervention and remedies for better hearing in hospitals and clinics.
